Calumet County Democrats Newsletter

March 2024                         (Meeting Tuesday, March 19, 2024 Chilton Public Library, 6:30 PM) Hello, fellow Democrats, welcome to March!  We have “survived” Super Tuesday, and now it’s time to get involved.  A handful of Democrats cannot change the trajectory of this election. Everyone must step up!!  This is not the time to sit back and watch, or we will all be …

Calumet County Democrats Newsletter

November 2023                         (Meeting Tuesday, November 28, Chilton Public Library, 6:30 PM) Dear Calumet County Democrats: We are a year away from “the” election, and the Democratic Party in Wisconsin is actively working this month to connect with voters who may lean Democrat, or are undeclared, or are Democrats kind of iffy on voting. The last couple of weeks has seemingly …

Election Aftermath Yields Same Math

Ray Mueller 11/12/20 “I can breathe again,” American democracy tweeted as it learned that the country’s voters had repelled Donald J. Trump’s bid for re-election. But, at the same time, she/it was wary of what more mischief and havoc Trump could cause in the remaining 70 days before he is supposed to leave office. It is quite disturbing that Trump …

Election Ballot Numbers

By Ray Mueller For the April 7 election, the Wisconsin Elections Commission reported there were 1,303,985 absentee ballots mailed with 1,159,800 of them returned and 120,989 (9.2 percent) not returned. Another report indicated nearly 1 million absentee mail-in ballots were cast. I don’t know why there is such a discrepancy of about 160,000 in the number of absentee mail-in voters. I believe …

Beware the Coming Dictatorship

By Ray Mueller Folks, a dictatorship is being imposed on the United States. What are WE going to do about it? The national protest upheaval since Memorial Day has given the Trump administration another opportunity to concoct its own extremely misleading version of reality. While condemning the violence as such but without providing any leadership to address and counter the …

April 7 Election Dereliction a State Scandal

By Ray Mueller After political, judicial, and administrative machinations, the only heroes in Wisconsin’s bizarre and tainted election on April 7 were Milwaukee and Green Bay residents who waited 2 to 4 hours to vote, besieged local election clerks, election poll workers, and the National Guard people who were prepared to help. Unfortunately, local officials in Green Bay and Milwaukee refused qualified …

Twenties a Topsy-Turvy Time

by Ray Mueller published 1/20 Just over 20 years ago, there was lots of apprehension about the impending arrival of the year 2000. A major concern was whether everything that was computer run – a technology developed in years starting with 19 – would convert to the 20s. When January 1, 2000 dawned, everything kept humming and seemed to be …

Brad Pfaff Fired as DATCP Secretary

November 2019 Still fuming over their loss of the governorship (and all other state level offices) a year earlier, all 19 Republicans in the Wisconsin senate vented a bit of their fury on November 5 by refusing to accept Gov. Tony Evers’ appointment of Brad Pfaff to be Secretary of the state’s Department of Agriculture, Trade, and Consumer Protection – …

GOP Excesses Out of Bounds

By Ray Mueller The arrogance and audacity of the Republican leaders in the Wisconsin legislature seem to have no limits. And, with rare exceptions, they enjoy full backing by their fellow Republicans, including those from this area. Stung by the loss of all five state-wide offices to Democrats in the 2018 election, Republicans retaliated quickly to defy the will of …

Mueller Report Fallout Looms

By Ray Mueller, originally published June 6, 2019 “He got away with it” – at least for now – is a simple way to assess the standing of President Donald J. Trump in the wake of the long-awaited but redacted Mueller report. As long as he remains on the scene, Trump will crow about “no collusion” and “total exoneration” to his adoring …
